It is ...Hi, I have a daughter named Elliette too. It is true that instead of the "ot" sound you say "ette", it is a slight different but noticeable. Children seem to have any easier time saying her name than some adults who use "ot". Her German great-grandfather had loved the name Elliette, and we thought we would honor him by using it. It is actually a French name that was popular in the 1940's and 1950's in France but is generally less used now. We did not use it is as a version of Elliot or intend for it to be similar to a boys name but were using the name in its pure French form. I think for Americans there is an assumption that it is Elliot or a take on a boys name. We tell her she could be Ellie or Elle but she prefers Elliette. She also knows there is a boys name Elliot but doesn't seemed concerned as she thinks it sounds different. We lover her name and so does she!DSinclairnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7349695351577791652.post-91464321644571224132012-08-17T10:31:26.482-04:002012-08-17T10:31:26.482-04:00I actually have a daughter named Elliette. After going through options that could be shortened to Ellie and not finding one I liked, I was watching ET while heavily pregnant. There is a scene where ET calls out to the little boy character, "Elliot", and its from there that I found a more feminine way to spell it. She is now 22 and loves her name. Oh, and her middle name is Myriah after a great grand mother, I too liked an 'M' to follow.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7349695351577791652.post-34839076515244088912012-03-16T22:14:54.233-04:002012-03-16T22:14:54.233-04:00Oh how I have missed commenting on this blog!

And it's sad to see that it's such a common trend right now. However I actually think that Elliette is really beautiful, which is quite shocking for me. But the spelling is lovely and as soon as you said which middle name would you pair it with I thought of Marie and was glad to see you thought so too! It's quite beautiful sounding!

Oliver has always been a favourite of mine. I think it has quite a distinguished feel to it. I don't think I would use it because I have far too many other names I like above it, but I do think it's a nice name :)Melhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02210949601658438992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7349695351577791652.post-81971547005231803882012-01-12T12:09:59.534-05:002012-01-12T12:09:59.534-05:00I know what you mean about not liking masculine na...I know what you mean about not liking masculine names and surname for girls. There's so many lovely girls names that people shouldn't have to use names like Carson and Riley for boys!

Thank you for following this blog. I don't post on here as often as my other blogs but I have been posting more recently.Miss Lauriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00973247921599001493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7349695351577791652.post-58353114668493072302012-01-11T20:32:27.580-05:002012-01-11T20:32:27.580-05:00I don't like either. I have always disliked names that were originally masculine (Loren, Ashley etc.) or even surnames (Mackenzie) that parents have snitched for their girls, and I don't always like the adding suffixes to boys names although there are some I like such as Daniella.

I think Oliver sounds priggish.

I follow your other blog and was looking over it when I found this blog. I love names, their meanings, and their history. I also love picking out names for my kids...silly I know, but oh so fun. Anyway I think this is a great blog.Livia Rachellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02755623391278276925noreply@blogger.com
